We are pleased to announce our Runner of the Year races for 2024 below. Those in yellow are our double point races. You can submit races which aren't listed below as well to [email protected] or via this link prior to midnight 30 November 2024.
You must include a link to the results in your submission to be counted. Happy running!
Every year the committee picks our club races for the year. These form part of our Club Male/Female runner of the year awards which will run from 01 October 2019 through to and including 30 November 2020.
Our Club races will be the ones where the club will monitor the results and record these for the Runner of the Year results. Other results can be included in the running (pardon the pun) for the award however you need to submit these via a special link below so that we are aware of the result and include a link to your result and photo if required. With the numbers of events these days its becoming harder for us to keep track of them all. SCORING INSTRUCTIONS
Any event where you wear club kit (Fortius Running Club Singlet or T-Shirt) or volunteer as a pacer will attract a single bonus point. You must race as yourself to earn points, if you race as someone else or someone else races as you, points WILL NOT be awarded.
Where the event is a double point event all points collected in the event will be doubled e.g. You ran a half marathon at a double point event in your Fortius Running Club singlet and finished 11th in your age category you would earn as follows. 11th Place = 6 points Half Marathon = 5 points Club singlet = 1 point Total = 12 points x 2 for double point event = 24 points for the event. 2020 club races

Connor and fellow Fortius runner Mirjana recently met up with 120,000 other spectators along Prater Park in Vienna to watch Eliud Kipchoge rip through a marathon in 1:59:40. We managed to snag a great spot near the finish line in amongst a big contingent of very excited Kenyans. Right next to where the Austrian hosts kept the crowd and runners amped by blasting Vanessa Amorssi tunes.
But in every other aspect the whole event was very slick and there wasn't a lot left to chance. The pacing convoy were as steady as a metronome and swapped in and out and just past where we were standing. The course was pancake flat and had been resealed in places and the morning was about 10°C and completely still (wearing shorts wasn't my best decision). And the crowd went nuts every time Eliud flew past. If the whole track was as loud as our little spot then it must have been a deafening run. It was great to see a crowd like that getting behind a running event with so much enthusiasm. Connor went back later in the day for a run along the course – just a smidge off the 2:50 pace set that morning but only because he needed to save the legs for a marathon the next week. 😉 It has been a busy few weeks with events and back on Sunday 13 October was the Melbourne Marathon and the first round of the SEQ Trail Running Series. Fortius Running Club was represented well at both events. melbourne marathonIn the Marathon we had Atul Aroa finish in 03:22:08 NET time and was 153rd in the M35-39 age category Joe Garbellini finish in 03:37:29 NET time and was 112nd in the M50-54 age category Rick Larkin finish in 03:49:54 NET time and was 238th in the M45-49 age category It looks like Atul ran so fast he lost his shoes too In the Half Marathon we had Todd McLennan finish in 01:42:46 NET time and was 45th in the M50-54 age category Nice work gentlemen! Well that's done, another Gold Coast Marathon weekend done and dusted. Most would say that quite possibly was the wildest weather we have had for a Gold Coast Marathon weekend for a very long time or for as long as I can remember anyway.
Well done to all those athletes who ran at the various events over the weekend and especially those who ran PB's or course PB's despite the conditions. It really shows training in all conditions can really prepare you for race day. A massive thank you to Paul from BL Physio for the post race massages and physio support. I'm sure everyone enjoyed their massages even though their faces perhaps didn't show it. Full results can be found by clicking "Read More" below
